Iconic American painter Wayne Thiebaud has always inspired me. His paintings of everyday objects (mostly desserts!) are often impacting because of their stark settings and repetitious compositions. The subject matter of his work renders it pop-cultural in scope (even though his work in the 1940s and 50s predates the pop-art movement) but it is still so accessible and fun to look at. Several retrospectives of his work now exist, including the newly released book called "Delicious," and I intend on acquiring a few of them. Below are some examples of his 'sweet' work.
I love the painting of watermelons. Gorgeous. I had never heard of him. Are you coming into money soon Andrew or are they affordable???
ReplyDeleteNo, they're not affordable at all! Very expensive. That's why we have the books! :-)
